What the scorer measures
Every question maps to a signal in the rubric our two-pass pipeline uses to score real user complaints. Willingness-to-pay and switching intent carry the most weight, because they are the strongest evidence a complaint is demand.
Who feels it
15 ptsIs the pain reported by people at work — a professional or business context — rather than hobbyists or one-off personal use?
Willingness to pay
20 ptsDo the complaints mention money — what the problem costs, revenue it loses, or a budget to fix it?
Commercial intent
20 ptsIs anyone actively trying to switch tools or pay for a fix right now — not just venting?
Frequency signal
15 ptsDo they admit repeating a manual workaround — spreadsheets, scripts, copy-paste — because nothing does it for them?
Niche breadth
15 ptsCould you name at least three distinct companies or teams — not one person — with this exact problem?
Evidence count
15 ptsHave you seen it on more than one platform — Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Overflow, review sites…?

Frequently asked questions
- How does the SaaS Idea Scorer work?
- You answer six yes/partially/no questions about the evidence behind your idea — who feels the pain, whether money is mentioned, whether anyone is switching tools, whether a manual workaround repeats, how broad the market is, and how many platforms the complaints appear on. Each answer is weighted and the total lands on the same 20-point intent lattice (0/20/40/60/80/100) we use to score real complaints in our corpus.
- What is a good score?
- 80 or above means the demand signals align — validate it directly with target users before building. 40–60 means the signal is weak: some evidence exists, but the money or switching intent is thin, so go find more complaints first. Below 40 usually means you have a preference, not a demand signal yet.
- How is this different from the idea validator?
- The scorer is a 60-second self-check against our six demand signals — it scores what you already know. The idea validator is the deep dive: it matches your idea against our corpus of real, scored user complaints and tells you how many people are actually frustrated. Score first, then validate.
- Is the scorer free? Do you store my answers?
- Free, no email required, and nothing is stored — the score is computed entirely in your browser. If you want to share a result, the share link carries only the score (one of six lattice values), never your answers.
